PE

At Ark Castledown, Physical Education (PE) forms an important part of the curriculum and incorporates areas such as ball skills, gymnastics, dance, invasion games (football, basketball, netball, handball), striking and fielding games (rounders, cricket), net-and-ball sports (tennis, badminton), swimming, athletics and fitness training. Through these varied sports, children develop their core skills of agility, co-ordination, balance, fitness and teamwork. We encourage a profound enjoyment and enthusiasm for PE and sport that students can carry with them throughout their lives. We are committed to supporting students to build a positive relationship with mental health and well=being, empowering them to make informed decisions that lead to longer, healthier lives.

Competition and individual performance also form part of our commitment to high expectations. We strive to provide a learning experience that will enable all students to achieve beyond their potential and ultimately develop a lifelong passion for sporting participation and physical well being.

Our curriculum for PE aims to ensure that all pupils:

  • develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities
  • are physically active for sustained periods of time
  • engage in competitive sports and activities
  • lead healthy, active lives
